Us doctors get it in the neck a lot (especially the Accredited cosmetic doctors, who are faced with the dubious task of making already quite good-looking people look even better). We get in trouble for many reasons, but to my mind, the main ones are these: 1) We can’t write legibly (this is universal apparently). 2) We’re not sensitive enough and 3) most importantly because we are always, always making people wait. Which is what this article is about. Because believe it or not we have homes to go to as well. We have lives to live, to. So my aim in writing this is to tell everyone why we make the world wait, and hoping that the message gets through. Then, maybe, we can get some peace–

To put it simply, being a doctor is fairly stressful. Almost every single person who comes in the door is miserable (they were miserable before waiting so they are really miserable after), for example, and if you have never had to face this on a Monday morning after a heavy weekend then you will never really be able to understand how depressing all that misery is. I’m not saying that being ill isn’t miserable, but I am saying that the regular customers who keep getting sick have honed their miserable craft to perfection, and know how to waste our time (and consequently yours) really well. Yes, they are professional sick people, so they know how to break a doctor. They know how to glance at you in such a way as to snap your (already alcohol battered) soul in two.

So that’s why we are late. It’s because of the professional sick people who think they have every illness under the sun. Next time you’re in a waiting room blame them, not us!
